Handcrafting skills used to be handed down in families, from generation to generation. And while that was my experience, it isn't everyone's. Those skills go in and out of fashion—but the satisfaction of making by hand endures. Whether you want to take up quilting, learn embroidery, or give your kids access to the confidence learning a new skill can bring, there's a class for you!

Surface Embroidery 1
Learn 8-10 of the most useful and beautiful surface embroidery stitches in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. We’ll cover all the basics in class, and you will leave with suggestions of ways to put all of your new embroidery skills to use! No supplies are required; all materials are provided in the kit.

Surface Embroidery 2
Take your embroidery to the next level with another 8-10 stitches. This class will focus on slightly more complicated stitches and stitch variations. You will learn more about creating and transferring your own embroidery designs and leave inspired to keep stitching!
Date/Time: Sunday, March 6th, 12:30-4:00 (3.5hrs., 1day)
Materials: All supplies are provided in a kit. Kit is optional for embroidery 2 only, if you have your own supplies.
Cost: $55.00 + kit fee $15 payable to instructor on day of class.
Introduction to Sashiko Embroidery
Spend a relaxed afternoon learning this beautiful and meditative form of Japanese embroidery.We will cover two styles of Sashiko (Moyouzashi and Hitomezashi) and also talk about some of the history behind this traditional craft. The sashiko kit provided will include instructions to complete either an envelope pillow or book cover sampler so that you can put your new found Sashiko skills to use!

Tapestry Weaving
In this class, students will make their own simple peg loom and create small woven wall hangings. We will cover all the steps from making and warping the loom, to finishing and hanging your project. A number of tapestry weaving techniques will be discussed as will elements of composition and design. This is a perfect hobby to bring you joy and relaxation during the upcoming long winter evenings.
Date/Time: Sundays March 20th & April 3rd, 12:30-4:00 (7hrs., 2days)
Materials: All supplies are provided in a kit.
Cost: $105.00 + kit fee $25 payable to instructor on first day of class.
Over a fun and relaxed 8 weeks we will delve into the world of hand Embroidery. Starting out with some basic techniques and beginner stitches, we will then continue on to explore specific embroidery styles including surface embroidery, cross-stitch, sashiko, blackwork and more! The class will include a number of small projects and samplers which will showcase your newfound embroidery skills. See for yourself how enjoyable and meditative slow-stitching can be!
All materials provided for pick up in Halifax.
